The Commissioner, on the recommendation of the Minister, under section 8 of the Exemptions Act and every enabling power, makes the Exemptions Regulations.
The following are the maximum prescribed limits for property of a debtor that is, under subsection 2(1) of the Act, exempt from seizure under a writ of execution:
(a) $5,000 for household furnishings, utensils, equipment and appliances referred to in paragraph 2(1)(a);
(b) the amounts required for the next 12 months for food, fuel and other necessaries of life referred to in paragraph 2(1)(c);
(c) $12,000 for tools, instruments, books and other personal property referred to in paragraph 2(1)(d);
(d) $15,000 for tools, instruments, all-terrain vehicles, watercraft and other personal property referred to in paragraph 2(1)(e);
(e) $50,000 for the debtor’s interest in the principal residence referred to in paragraph 2(1)(f);
(f) $6,000 for a motor vehicle referred to in paragraph 2(1)(h).
Unless otherwise ordered by the Supreme Court, the prescribed minimum amount referred to in subsection 7(2) of the Act is $1,000 plus $250 for each dependant.
